Instagram is currently our favourite social platform at Purple Dog.  The reason? Because it’s the platform we see the most engagement on.  We have more of our audience liking our pictures, commenting and we find it easy to do the same with people we follow.

So if you’re interested in starting out on Instagram or already there you might want to know how to grow your following and engage with even more people.

4 ways to grow your Instagram followers

Give people a reason to follow you

1) Give people a reason to follow you.

First and foremost you need to create content that gives people a reason to want to follow you. Providing high-quality content for your audience and potential customers should still be at the top of your list, because of the major role it can play in how you communicate with your readership and get your message across. Great content attracts people organically, and they stick around for much longer.

What content will resonate with your audience and make them want to follow you?

Use your handle on all your marketing materials

2) Put your handle on your marketing materials.

Make your username handle highly visible on your marketing materials.  The chances of someone thinking about you having an Instagram and searching for you are lower than if you expose your handle for your consumer to see.

3) Comment.

Try to be engaging on other people’s accounts by posting comments. Obviously, “liking” pictures is nice, but when you comment, your name and handle get more exposure than does a like.

4) Tag a friend.

Make a post that invites people to tag a friend.  Therefore, your audience will bring you new followers who may not have heard of you yet.  For example, you can host an Instagram giveaway that requires your followers to tag a friend in the comments. Or you can ask a question such as “Which accounts on Instagram do you love to follow?”
